Senate FY08 HOPWA Letter closes with 37
Signatures!
Support from across the country for HIV/AIDS Housing Programs
On Tuesday,
May 8, the Senate FY08 HOPWA letter to the Chair and Ranking Member
of the Senate HUD Appropriations Subcommittee closed with 37
signers, 2 more than the highest number of signers for past Senate
letters!
Senators Durbin (D-IL) and Smith (R-OR)
provided extraordinary leadership for garnering support from
Democrats, Republicans and Independents from every region of the
country. The letter supports NAHC’s recommended funding level for the Housing
Opportunities for Persons With AIDS (HOPWA) program for FY2008 -- $454 million.
The President included $300 million for HOPWA in his FY08 budget
request – a welcome increase over the FY07 appropriated level of
$286 million, but -- far below the amount required to meet actual
need.
